"Himalayans reward their owners with sweet talk."

For all their striking looks, Himalayans are generally laid-back and quiet. With their sweet disposition, they get along easily with people and other pets.

Head: Massive, round; plump cheeks, short nose, short neck
Eyes: Large, round; deep blue
Ears: Small, wide set
Body: Solid, cobby, with short, strong legs
Coat: Soft, long, thick, glossy
Tail: Straight
Patterns: Usually tawny to cream to white, with color points on face mask, ears, legs, paws, and tail
Breed History: The result of a cross between a Siamese and a Persian, the Himalayan embodies both the Siamese colorpoint coloration, and the Persian solid body and strong legs, round head, and pansy like round eyes. The Himalayan first appeared in the 1930's when intentional crossbreeding of these two cats produced the first long haired, point colored Himalayan kitten, appropriately named Debutante. It was an unusual concept- crossing two different breeds with such disparate body types. But the idea clearly worked, and ever since Debutante's debut the Himalayan has grown greatly in popularity.

Originally bred in the Siamese colors of seal point, chocolate point, blue point, and lilac point, Himalayans today sport all available point colors, as well as being bred for solid chocolate and lilac. Some cat societies call these solid coloreds Kashmirs, while others consider them simply solid Himalayans.
