Caracal

Felis (Caracal) caracal
head and body 28 inches, tail 9 inches, weight 37 pounds
Slender animal with long dainty legs and a short, slightly tapered tail. Reddish brown in color, the Caracal has a lynx-like head with narrow, tufted, pointed ears. There are white markings around the eyes, and on the throat, chin and belly.
Habitat: Desert, savannah, scrub, stony ground, and mountain ranges.
Habits: Primarily nocturnal. Mostly terrestrial, but is a good climber and jumper.
Prey: Small and large birds, rodents, small to medium size hoofed mammals.
Distribution: Africa and Asia.
