This striking cat is called the Mint Leopard by the Chinese because
its markings resemble the leaves of the local mint. The coat varies from
pale to rich brown and the head is marked with black bands. The short ears
are round and black, with gray central patches. The underparts are pale
or white, and the tail is banded with black rings. |
Habitat: Dense
forests. |
Habits: Probably
hunts by day. Mainly arboreal. |
Prey: Mammals
up to the size of small deer, birds. |
Distribution: Himalayas
to Southeast Asia. |
Additional Notes: The
clouded leopard drops on its prey from tree branches above, thus giving
no warning of attack. |
