African Wild Cat

Felis lybica
head and body 14 inches, tail 12 inches, weight 10-18 pounds
Slightly larger than the domestic cat and more sturdily built, the African Wild Cat is yellowish to gray-brown, and may have a pattern of tabby markings, either pale or well-defined, depending on the subspecies. Cats with dark markings are found in forest areas, paler markings in the desert regions.
Habitat: All types of country, high or low, open or wooded.
Habits: Primarily nocturnal. Mostly terrestrial, but is a good climber.
Prey: Small mammals, lizards, insects, birds.
Distribution: Africa, West Eurasia.
