Black-Footed Cat

head and body 14-18 inches, tail 6-7 inches, weight 4 pounds
The smallest of all African Cats, possibly the smallest wild cat in the world, the Black-footed Cat is a sandy, ochre color, slightly darker on the back and lighter on the belly. Dark brown or black spots are streaked on the cheeks, throat, chest and belly, and there are bars of dark color on the forelegs and haunches. The backs of the rounded ears are dark brown and the feet have black soles.
Habitat: Dry sandy plains to grassy savannahs.
Habits: Primarily nocturnal, but also hunts at dawn or twilight. Terrestrial.
Prey: Ground squirrels, small rodents, birds, and reptiles.
Distribution: South Africa.
