Jaguarundi

Felis (Herpailurus) yagouaroundi
head and body 26 inches, tail 18 inches, weight 16 pounds
Often called the Weasel Cat, the jaguarundi looks very like an otter with its long, flat skull and compressed nose. Small, with short legs and a very long tail, this cat is found in two color phases which readily interbreed to produce kittens of both colors within the same litter. One phase is dark to brownish gray, and the other is a chestnut red.
Habitat: Lowland forest and bush, chaparral.
Habits: Sleeps at noon, hunts the rest of the day and night. Terrestrial, but able to climb trees.
Prey: Small mammals,  but mainly birds.
Distribution: South United States to central South America.
