Mountain Cat

Felis (Oreailurus) jacobita
head and body 23 inches, tail 14 inches, weight 8-15 pounds
Known also as the Andean Highland Cat, the Mountain Cat has a soft, fine coat of 2 inch long hair, pale silver-gray in color, with darker markings. These markings may be brown or orange on the body and flanks, but almost black on the white underparts and down the legs. The tail has several blackish rings and a light tip. The backs of the ears are gray.
Habitat: Arid mountainous zones, occasionally above the snowline.
Habits: Probably hunts by day. 
Prey: Small mammals such as the chinchilla and viscacha.
Distribution: South Peru to North Chile and Northwest Argentina.
