Rusty Spotted Cat

Felis (Prionailurus) rubiginosa
head and body 17 inches, tail 9 inches, weight 6-9 pounds
A very small wild cat, with small, round ears and a tail that is only half the length of its body. The fur is soft and short, grey with a orangeish-red tinge on top, pale underneath. There are spots on the belly and inside the legs, as well as dark stripes over the head. The face has two white and two dark streaks, and the pads of the feet are black.
Habitat: (India) Scrubland, dried riverbeds, and drainage systems near human habitations. (Ceylon) Forests and woodlands.
Habits: Nocturnal. Terrestrial.
Prey: Small mammals and birds.
Distribution: South Asia.
