Serval or Cerval

Felis (Leptailurus) serval
head and body 32 inches, tail 16 inches, weight 35 pounds
Lightly built, with very long legs and very large oval ears. The coat is a pale buff or reddish yellow, with black markings giving a speckled appearance. The tail is spotted with a black tip and the backs of the ears are black with distinctive white spots. This cat is approximately the size of a medium dog.
Habitat: Near water with dense cover such as reed-beds, scrub or high grass.
Habits: Primarily nocturnal, but also hunts in the day when necessary. Terrestrial.
Prey: Rats, lizards, small game birds, small deer.
Distribution: Algeria, Africa South of the Sahara.
